For years, fans of the University of Texas have faced hours of traffic jams and accidents on IH-35 when going to the annual Texas-OU rivalry at the Cotton Bowl.
This year, for the first time in years, there will actually be a safe and enjoyable way to get to the game. The "Texas Victory Game Train" will be part of Amtrak's Texas Eagle service between Austin and Dallas on the weekend of the big game.
Texas fans heading to Dallas for the annual Texas-OU Red River shootout will be able to watch the scenery while enjoying a drink, a snack, or a full meal in the dining car.
The only scenery that these travelers will miss is the view from their rear-view mirror, which on IH-35 usually means the headlights of a big 18-wheeler on your rear bumper.
The game train will leave Austin Friday morning, October 8th, and will return from Dallas on Sunday afternoon, October 10thFor several years, OU fans have used another Amtrak service to travel from Oklahoma City to Dallas for the game.
As a matter of Texas pride, the "Texas Victory Game Train" will be bigger and better, with UT decorations and special on-board events for the Texas fans.
Amtrak's Superliner coaches offer a spaciousness that air travelers can only dream about, and a limited number of private rooms are available for an extra charge.
Reservations and ticketing for the "Texas Game Train" will be handled by the Amtrak station in Austin.
Fans choosing to stay at hotels in downtown Dallas can ride the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Cotton Bowl shuttle to the game.Amtrak's popular Texas Eagle (www.texaseagle.com) provides daily service between San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago, from the Austin station located on the northwest corner of Lamar and Caesar Chavez. Seats on this first "Texas Victory Game Train" are limited, and are expected to sell out quickly.
All-aboard, and Hook ?em Horns! The Texas Eagle Marketing & Performance Organization (TEMPO) was formed in 1997 to promote service and enhance marketing efforts for the Texas Eagle.
TEMPO is an all volunteer group made up of elected officials and other representatives of cities along the route, rail advocacy groups from Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, as well as Amtrak union and management employees. This news release was submitted by Peter LeCody (214) 803-7285..
